WTF

If you have kids I'm sure you've had at least one or two moments a day where you ask out loud "WTF just happened here". This happens to me a lot.

Today's WTF moment is brought to you by something known as "Hair-thread tourniquet syndrome" . A condition I had no idea existed until my 9 week old daughter would not stop crying and I noticed her finger was red and swollen... WTF right?

Hair-thread tourniquet syndrome is a strangulation or near strangulation of an appendage (toes, fingers, or external genitalia) by hair or hair-like fibers in the pediatric population. Yes, that's right somehow little Angeline got one of my hairs wrapped so tight around her finger that we could not get it off. Let me just say I am a basket case who will run around like a chicken with it's head cut off at the slightest illness, cut, scrape, or sign of danger. My husband was trying to remove the hair from her finger and all I could do was panic and yell "throw her in the car let's get her to the hospital."

We did not need to take her to the hospital and she is fine but I am now considering making anyone with hair long enough to wrap around her finger wear a hair net before touching my baby. I will also check her fingers and toes every 15 minutes like I have OCD. Why don't doctors tell you this kind of stuff before you leave the hospital? Where the hell is the handbook and directions for this thing?
